TCM: Case 1 Metropolitan Police

This case study is an example of a client utilising many of the services TCM Ltd has to offer.

In 2002 TCM Ltd approached a consortium involved in the building of the biggest range complex in Europe for Police forces incorporating a number of specialised tactical internal and external firearms ranges and public order training facilities including a small mock town. A tender was produced including general cleaning and grounds maintenance. We are at our strongest when we are able to combine our in house services and produce a bespoke package which will be flexible and cost efficient. The contract was awarded in Feb 2003 but has already expanded significantly as new problems and demands rose.

Firearm Range Cleaning
The fire arm ranges are being used for longer shifts than were originally planned, resulting in additional care and consideration for decontamination techniques. Operatives have increased their hours to ensure that the ranges are kept as clean as possible to maintain low lead dust levels. Health and safety checks are regularly made as well as lead in air tests.

Communal Area Cleaning [external]
The amount of use for the urban riot training area has more than doubled over the year particularly the broken glass bottles used as petrol bombs. TCM Ltd responded by adjusting the cleaning rota, adding extra labour and purchasing larger machinery to cope with the extra demands. TCM’s shift teams worked together strategically sharing resources which resulted in the client being able to continue with their practices without disruption.

General Cleaning
The number of resident trainees has increased form 200 to 400 per week. The cleaning regime has had to become responsive to work around the training times. We have been able to maintain a high standard of hygiene throughout and have not only received testimonials from the clients but our service teams have received gifts of thanks form the trainees.

Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance
The grounds maintenance contract includes a large external firearm range. TCM recently carried out large scale landscape works including the installation of a 1KM road way. Extensive turfing and seeding has also enhanced the layout of the area and there are plans for more work including culvert construction.
